  • Great for ADHD-supportive learners

Founded by an Austin ISD veteran who knew kids deserved more.

Supplementor was started in 2018 by Dr. Priya Patel, a former 6th-grade math teacher at Mendez Middle School and PhD in Education from the University of Texas at Austin. After eight years inside the public-school system, Priya saw the same pattern in classroom after classroom: bright students falling behind not because they couldn't learn, but because thirty kids per teacher meant no one had time to walk them through the steps they were missing.

She started tutoring two neighborhood families in her dining room. Word spread. Eight years later, Supplementor employs 38 vetted educators across Travis, Williamson, and Hays counties, and we have walked more than 2,400 K-12 students through everything from kindergarten phonics to AP Calculus to the digital SAT.

Why we're called Supplementor

We supplement what kids learn in school. We are private tutors and test-prep specialists. Classroom teachers do an incredible job with limited time — our role is to fill in the gaps, reinforce the wins, and make every student feel like they have a coach in their corner.

Every Supplementor tutor holds at least a Bachelor's in their teaching subject, passes a state criminal background check, and completes 22 hours of internal training before they ever sit at a kitchen table with one of our families. We promise honest progress reports, transparent pricing, and the kind of follow-through you expect from a neighbor who genuinely cares whether your kid succeeds.

Real teachers Every tutor was, or currently is, a credentialed classroom educator.
Honest reports Monthly progress notes that tell parents what's actually happening.
Local roots Headquartered on Manor Rd. — Austin born, Austin raised.
No fluff You pay for outcomes. Cancel anytime, no annual contracts.

The Supplementor approach to real progress.

Tutoring isn't magic. It's a deliberate process: figure out what a student already knows, find the gap, fill it, then build forward. We've refined this loop with thousands of Austin-area students.

Two students collaborating on a homework problem with a tutor Step 1

Diagnose what your student actually knows.

Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute consultation followed by a no-pressure placement-check session. The tutor walks through grade-level material with your student to figure out exactly where the strong foundation ends and the shakier ground begins. Many parents tell us this conversation alone is worth the call.

  • Free phone consultation with Dr. Patel or our program director
  • 30-minute placement-check session at your home, online, or our learning center
  • Plain-English summary of strengths and growth areas — emailed within 48 hours
Student writing in a notebook surrounded by textbooks Step 2

Match the right tutor to the right student.

This is where most tutoring services cut corners. We match students to tutors based on subject expertise, personality fit, scheduling overlap, and learning-style preferences. A shy fifth-grader doesn't need a high-energy tutor — and a teenager preparing for the AP Physics exam doesn't need a generalist. Mismatches kill momentum, so we take this step seriously.

  • 38 vetted educators across math, science, language arts, and test prep
  • Every tutor holds a relevant degree and a current state background check
  • Free re-match within the first 3 sessions if the chemistry isn't right
Student concentrating on schoolwork with a focused expression Step 3

Run focused, repeatable sessions.

Each tutoring session is 60 or 90 minutes, broken into a quick warm-up, focused work on the target skill, and a short review. Tutors take session notes that go directly into the family's portal. Parents see exactly what was worked on and what is coming up next — no mystery, no fluff, no padded billing.

  • Structured session plan emailed to parents before each meeting
  • End-of-session note in your family portal within 12 hours
  • Monthly progress check-ins with the tutor and lead parent
Group of high school students reviewing material together Step 4

Measure outcomes — and keep adjusting.

Every six weeks we run a low-stakes mastery check on the skills the student has been working on. If progress is on track, we plan the next module. If something didn't stick, we find a different angle — different examples, a different teaching approach, sometimes a different tutor. Stagnation isn't a Supplementor option.

  • Six-week mastery checks with parent debrief
  • Pacing adjustments built into every long-term engagement
  • Honest "you don't need us anymore" conversations when goals are met

From first call to first session in under a week.

We make enrollment simple. No high-pressure pitches, no annual contracts, no surprise fees. Here's exactly how it works.

My daughter went into our first call with Supplementor sitting at a 1330 SAT score and convinced she had hit her ceiling. After the eight-week bootcamp with her tutor Marcus, she scored a 1490 on her March test. The score improvement is the headline, but honestly the bigger win is that she now believes she's a strong test-taker. Worth every dollar.

Our son was bringing home a low C in 8th-grade pre-algebra and the school's response was basically "we'll keep an eye on it." That wasn't going to cut it. We brought in Supplementor twice a week and within one grading period he was up to a B+. By the end of the year he had an A and was actually asking to do extra problems. The tutor, Aisha, was patient in a way I just don't have time to be on a Tuesday night.

We have twin daughters who both needed ISEE prep for private-school admissions. The cohort format was perfect — they pushed each other a bit, the cost was lower than two separate tutors, and Dr. Patel personally checked in with us every two weeks. Both girls were admitted to their first-choice school. I recommend Supplementor to every parent in our neighborhood.

Answers Austin parents ask before enrolling.

If you don't see your question here, call us at (512) 555-0139 and we will gladly walk you through it.

We tutor students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Our subject coverage includes math (counting through AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics), reading, writing, science (biology, chemistry, physics including AP), Spanish, French, Mandarin, and standardized test prep — SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, AP exams, and the Texas STAAR. We also offer executive-function coaching that supports any subject your student is taking.
Pricing depends on format and grade level. As a transparent guide: 1-on-1 in-home and online sessions run $75-$110 per hour. Small-group cohorts run $45-$60 per student per hour. SAT/ACT bootcamps are a flat package of $1,895 for the full eight weeks including placement-check and practice exams. We never lock families into annual contracts and there are no hidden fees. Your phone consultation will give you a precise quote tailored to your student.
Every Supplementor tutor holds at least a Bachelor's degree in the subject they teach, and roughly 60% are current or former classroom teachers. We do not staff sessions with high-schoolers or generalist college students. Each tutor passes a Texas Department of Public Safety background check, completes our 22-hour onboarding, and is observed in two live sessions before being matched with new families.
After your initial phone consultation, our program director reviews the student's grade level, subject needs, learning style preferences, scheduling availability, and personality notes you share with us. We then propose a tutor we believe is the best fit. If the chemistry isn't right within the first three sessions, we will re-match you to another tutor at no charge — period.
Yes. About 35% of our weekly tutoring sessions happen entirely online over our shared digital whiteboard platform. Online tutoring is ideal for families outside our 25-mile in-home service radius, students with packed after-school schedules, or anyone who simply prefers the convenience. The same vetted tutors deliver online and in-home sessions.
Yes. We do not lock families into annual contracts. You may pause, reduce, or end tutoring at any time with 48 hours notice. We bill in two-week cycles so any unused time on a paid cycle is either rolled over or refunded — your choice.
In-home tutoring is available within a 25-mile radius of our Manor Rd. learning center, which covers all of Austin proper, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Manor, Del Valle, and most of Buda and Kyle. If you're slightly outside the radius and have a family of 2+ students, we can usually accommodate — call us.
Every session ends with a written note posted to your family portal within 12 hours covering what was worked on, what your student did well, and what is planned for next time. Every six weeks we do a longer parent debrief — by phone or video — to review pacing and adjust the plan. There is no "black box" with us. Parents see exactly what is happening and pay for outcomes, not vibes.
